Tips for Protecting Your Roof from the Sun
The harsh UV radiation and the heat of the sun can cause lots of damage to roofs, but fortunately, there are many great ways to use to protect your Parker roofing. Here are some:
- Use a solar reflective coating – these coatings are products developed to seal the roof surface and to prevent it from absorbing too much heat, used mostly on flat roofs. Reflective coatings are available in many varieties, including tinted and transparent versions and they are suitable for a variety of roof types, mostly for flat structures. They are applied in a way similar to applying paint and they usually need to be reapplied every couple of years;
- Cover the roof in polyurethane foam – the solution is mainly applied on pitched roofs and they can be installed by licensed contractors. The roof is cleaned, then the foam sheet is fastened with a special aerosol spray;
- Install a reflective membrane – another solution for sloped roofs and also one that needs to be applied by a professional;
- Ensure that your attic stays cool – attic insulation will ensure not only that your attic space stays cool, but it will also prevent the roof from becoming overheated. A fan installed in the attic and efficient roof vents are also efficient methods to prevent heat damage on the roof.
