Should You Always Remove Your Old Roof before Installing the New One?

Many homeowners are wondering if they can actually put a new roof over an existing one. The answer to this question may depend on several important factors.

Homeowners do not always understand roofing dynamics, but one of the experienced residential Centennial roofing companies can provide you with assistance in this respect. As compared to roof replacement, re-roofing is very affordable, fast and convenient. Nevertheless, it can only be done under specific circumstances.

Re-roofing can be a good option if your roof is approaching the end of its life, but the underlying parts are still in a good shape. Another situation when re-roofing is recommended is if your shingles tend to lose granules. Or you may simply want a new design or color for your roofing system.

In case your roof is made of wood or tile shingles, adding shingles over the existing layers may not be possible. But if you have an asphalt shingle roof, then re-roofing is plausible. At the same time, you cannot install a new roof over an already-existing one if there are any missing or curling shingles.

And if you have already done a re-roof, then the only option would be to tear down the existing roof before installing the new one.
