Should You Aim for TPO Roofing as a More Durable Commercial Solution?

Are you in the process of considering TPO roof for your commercial Centennial roofing solution?

TPO membranes are the most modern versions of membrane roofs. Unlike PVC, TPO is considered eco-friendly, and easier to install than EPDM.

TPO is an acronym meaning thermoplastic polyolefin. The material combines ethylene-propylene and polyprofilene. Basically, TPO is a single layer membrane (similar to EPDM), and more and more property managers and commercial building owners consider this material as one of the top choices, due to the advantages provided that include energy efficiency, recyclability and color availability.

However, if you are looking for a highly durable commercial solution, you should know that TPO roofing is estimated to last around 15-20 years. Compare this lifespan with EPDM (which is up to 50 years old) and you will realize that TPO is not the most durable choice.

The characteristics of this type of roofing depend a lot on the technologies used in its manufacturing; note that not all TPO membranes are manufactured to correspond to the characteristics declared by the manufacturer. If you plan to install a TPO roof, make sure to get the membrane from a reputable manufacturer or hire a skilled, specialized roofer, so as not to encounter problems with seams that come off, which will require frequent repairs.
