Rubber Roofing Varieties and Coatings for Proper Storm Protection

Making sure your commercial roof can withstand bad storms is an essential part of building maintenance that should never be ignored. If you aim to replace your roof, probably the best type of Highlands Ranch roofing material that you can use to fend off bad storms is either EPDM and modified bitumen.

EPDM is probably the most resilient type of rubber roof, and it can typically be used for decades without the need for added coatings. Modified bitumen is a type of asphalt roof that is combined with a chemical polymer which makes it more resilient and provides a tighter seal. Modified bitumen is applied using melted or mopped asphalt, adhesive rolls or cold-applied asphalt sheets. It’s rated among the best types of flat roofing system against wind and storm damage, and it’s also fireproof.

If you’re not too keen on replacing your roof with a new one, and your current commercial roof isn’t weatherproofed, you can simply fix it up and then apply a type of waterproof coating to protect it. Any type of roof can be waterproofed in this way, regardless of whether it’s a modified bitumen, single ply, EPDM (or other membrane roof) or a metal roof.

There are a few important types of coatings exist for this purpose: PVC and rubber coatings, acrylic coatings and silicone coatings. While acrylic is best used for UV protection, a good silicone coating will protect your roof against leaks and pooling, and it’s considered as one of the best types of coatings to use for proper storm protection.
