In Search of the Most Eco-Friendly Residential Roofing Materials

There are a lot of roofing materials that could be used for a brand new roof, but not all of them are as eco-friendly and energy efficient as one might hope. If you have one of the Centennial roofing companies install some expensive slate roofing, it likely won’t do much more than to protect your home from the elements for a long time. Similarly, clay and terracotta roofing will need additional insulation to perform well, while wood and asphalt shingle roofs are even prone to extensive damage during the winter.

Worst of all, none of these roofing systems – except perhaps asphalt – are very sustainable or eco-friendly. In many cases, they are disposed of, and new roofs made from different roofing materials are put in their place.

The best eco-friendly roofing products include green roofs, metal roofs and solar panel roofs. Metal roofing systems last for a long time and the metal used can typically be cleaned up and repurposed, after the roof’s lifespan is complete.

Solar panel roofing are, as the name suggests, a solar panel array set on top of a home’s regular roofing system. Together with green roofs, which are literally roof-mounted, oxygen-producing gardens, are the most eco-frendly types of roofing systems that you will ever find just about anywhere in the roofing industry.
