How Metal Roofing Sheets are Made
If you are planning to get a new metal roof and you have been wondering how those strong, but lightweight metal sheets are manufactured, here is what goes into the process:
- Manufacturing metal coils – the first step in making metal sheets is to transform the raw material into coil;
- Rolling – the coil is introduced into a roller former machine, a complex piece of equipment usually fitted with a computer control unit to automate the process and to allow for fine settings. The machine transforms the coil into sheets of the desired thickness and gives the sheets their design. Roller former machines can be adjusted to achieve various designs, such as curved shapes and various profiles;
- Painting – one of the features that make metal roofing systems so appreciated is the wide range of available colors. The sheets sold in the store are painted in the factory and various types of protective coats are also applied at the production plant;
- Manufacturing the accessories – metal roofing systems consist of more than the sheet metal – fasteners, connecting elements, drop edges, trims and others are also needed. All these elements are also manufactured at the plant and supplied with the panels.
