Cleaning your gutters - Look for these common gutter problems

Gutter cleaning is a periodic maintenance operation that every building owner should consider doing, because it prevents many issues, mostly related to water infiltrations. It is also a good excuse to examine your gutters for different problems.  Many people consider gutters as install-and-forget accessories, but actually they need to be maintained too. Gutter pitch

Gutters must not be installed in a perfectly horizontal line along the roof. They must have a small pitch, in order to do their magic.  This way you prevent stagnant water in the gutters, scavenging for moisture, organic matter and infestation.

Signs of corrosion

Most gutters are metallic, which means that they can corrode especially if they are not maintained on a regular basis.  Screws and bolts are not always protected from rust either.  Corrosion creates holes in the gutters, and rainwater will not be evacuated safely anymore.

Detached gutters

This problem may occur as a result of poor installation, but also because of strong wind or tree branches hitting the gutters. The weight of ice formation or snow accumulation during the cold season can also make your gutters become loose.
