Are Green Roofs Popular For Residential Properties?

American cities are starting to use green roofs for residential properties. In general, a green roofing system is made up of a wood structure covered by a waterproof membrane, another inorganic layer which prevents roots from entering the membrane, and another layer made either of gravel, or of thermoplastic materials, and which is meant to provide good drainage, then another layer for retaining moisture and, on top of all of these, the porous medium for planting. The planting medium can be ground up roofing tiles, chipped shale or volcanic pumice. This planting layer is lightweight and absorbent. It should contain enough minerals to encourage plants to grow.

The green roof can be made to be a single surface, or can be made up of several different modules. At the same time, you can find nice pre-fabricated designs. In general, green roofs are maintenance free. If you want a roof which is planted with more demanding plant species, such as flowering plants, trees or shrubs, then you should do more efforts in terms of maintenance.

Due to their many benefits, green roofs are expected to grow in popularity even more, as they can provide environmental solutions to many present-day issues. There are many roofing options to choose from, so be sure to discuss them with a quality roofing company such as TSV Construction and Roofing before deciding which roofing solution is best for your home and investment.
